ABCeX (American Brazilian Cultural Exchange) is a non-profit organization committed to promoting cultural exchange between the United States and Brazil. Our founders and board members come from a wide range of experiences and careers. We all share a love for Brazilian culture and a strong belief in the power of cultural exchange to inspire, enlighten, and empower. Most of us have had cultural exchange experiences abroad that were somehow transformative. In March 2009, we founded ABCeX in response to the recognition that such experiences are invaluable, and that, due to lack of infrastructure, they remain inaccessible to many interested parties in the U.S. and in Brazil.
How we do it
- Linking volunteers and non-profit organizations in Brazil and the U.S.
- Facilitating service-learning partnerships between universities and community projects in Brazil and the U.S.
- Organizing independent study projects for students and professionals in Brazil and the U.S. These programs are custom-designed based on participant interests and community needs, and may include such topics as: education, social work, development, alternative energy, sustainable agriculture, social justice, architecture, and the humanities.
- Partnering with and supporting other non-profit organizations with the common mission of fostering intercultural understanding and international cooperation, especially those committed to ensuring the affordability of exchange opportunities.
